‘OPERA PRINCESS’ WITH THE AUCKLAND PHILHARMONIA ORCHESTRA

MATAMATA, Waikato – Only 10 years old and she is already scaling great heights in the field of opera singing. After her spectacular wins in the 2019 World Championships of Performing Arts in July came yet another feather in the cap. Jazz Vidamo won the title ‘Little Singer 2019’ awarded by NZ Opera and the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.

This aforementioned event is an annual competition for 9-12 year old singers who are invited to send in their audition videos. This year, out of numerous applications 8 finalists who were picked to do a workshop and an actual audition with the directors of NZ Opera and the Auckland Philharmonia. From there, they picked the ‘Little Singer’ who would be taking centre stage at the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra concerts for 2019 and 2020.

Jazz Vidamo won this prestegius competition and debuted her performance of ‘Silent Night’ with the orchestra in their Christmas concert in Auckland Town on November 30.

According to her publicist Aileen Dela Rosa: “Jazz is no stranger to competitions as she has recently won 1st place at the prestigious Lockwood’s NZ Aria. It is one of Australasia’s well known competition for aspiring opera singers where she sang “Sa kabukiran” which is a Filipino traditional song popularised by Sylvia la torre.

“The judge was so impressed that she even thanked Jazz for introducing her to this beautiful song.

“She also won the 2019 Champion of the World Division category and won  gold and 4 silver medals at the World Championships of Performing Arts in July.”
